Welcome to Classical Music with Robert Bruce
Same Wine, Different Bottle
Weekend afternoons on 88.7 KCME-FM
Attentive listeners may have noticed something a bit different lately in the music they’ve been hearing on weekend afternoons. For the first time since 2007, KCME hosts are selecting all of the music you hear on our programs. This may come as a surprise to you – surely, you thought, all the announcers choose their own music! Many radio stations have Music Directors on staff who program every day’s music, and we announcers simply play what’s been selected. That had been the case at Classical KCME – but no longer.
So – I am now solely responsible for all the music you hear when listening to my programs on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Now, I’m rather new at this … so please bear with me! You’re likely going to be hearing a lot of my favorite composers and pieces – and, I hope, some of yours as well. If you like the music of Bach, Handel, Beethoven, Vivaldi, Mozart, Haydn, Schubert, Ravel, Tchaikovsky, Dvořák, Brahms, Mendelssohn, Sibelius, Debussy, Richard Strauss, Chopin, Berlioz, Wagner, Rossini, Prokofiev – I could go on – fear not! You’ll be hearing a good deal of their music. And I just might start perking up your ears with a little more music by Stravinsky, Janáček, Bartók, Shostakovich, and Mahler. You’ll likely be hearing a bit more vocal music and opera, too—something you’ve not heard a whole lot of in the past on KCME. And as film music is also a passion of mine, I’ll very likely be programming a bit more of that, as well.
This is very much a learning experience for me – Hey! I’ve never done this before! So I hope you’ll enjoy my choice of music while I gain some much needed practice and experience. And in the meantime, if you hear something you really like – or something you don’t – you can let me know. After all, it’s all about the music and our listeners at Classical 88.7 KCME. Naturally, I can’t always please everyone all of the time, but it’s my sincere wish and objective that the music I bring you on weekend afternoons will keep you coming back to KCME for more!
