About 88.7 KCME FM
Thank you for your interest in learning more about 88.7 KCME-FM. We're proud to serve communities throughout Central and Southern Colorado, and we are grateful for your support.
KCME's mission is to foster the appreciation of great music. We will achieve this goal by cultivating knowledge and enjoyment of the music by listeners of all ages, by expanding the reach of our coverage, by maintaining state-of-the-art audio quality and by supporting the arts in our broadcast area.
88.7 KCME-FM is an independent public radio station that broadcasts classical music twenty-four hours a day. Founded in 1977, KCME's studios were located in a small house near a babbling creek in Manitou Springs, Colorado. In March of 1993 KCME moved its studios and offices to the present location.
Over the years, KCME has grown to the point where it now broadcasts its signal over a much wider area from its transmitter high atop Cheyenne Mountain in Colorado Springs.
KCME has expanded its services to other communities that have expressed a desire to hear the station, with translators serving:
- Manitou Springs (88.7 FM)
- Cripple Creek / Victor (89.5 FM)
- Woodland Park (93.5 FM)
- Salida / Buena Vista (88.1 FM & 89.5 FM)
- Cañon City / Florence / Penrose (91.1 FM)
- Summit County (89.3 FM)
By satellite transmission, KCME's signal is heard in mountainous areas that would otherwise be difficult to reach and, in the future, KCME expects to broadcast to additional communities. The added ability to broadcast its signal over the internet means that KCME is now heard literally anywhere in the world.
With its studios now located in Colorado Springs, KCME's operating revenues are derived from membership drives and from the sale of on-air program sponsorship announcements to community-minded businesses, thus assuring that one hundred percent of its support comes from the community it serves.
